The calm reigns in Sâo Vicente, a small Cape Verdean island where most of the people have never moved away. There we meet Tchinda, one of their most beloved women, especially after coming out as a transgender person in the local newspaper in 1998. Since then, her name has become the way local people call queer Cape Verdeans.
Tchinda, now 35, remains humble and has never taken advantage of that. Every afternoon, she sells in her neighbourhood "coxinhas": delicious fried balls of chicken. But the rhythm evolves when the Carnival arrives. It’s in February and the previous month is hectic as the whole island works together. Lots of problems arise, specially due to a lack of money... but imagination does the rest.
Sâo Vicente becomes a «Little Brazil» as their most acclaimed singer, Cesária Évora (1941-2011), defined in one of her most famous "mornas". We’ll be guided by Tchinda and her friends to a fascinating trip to an unknown side of Africa that few could have imagined.
